Henri Rousseau, who was he?
Painter Henri Julien Félix Rousseau was born in Laval, Mayenne, France in 1844.
His bright, exotic-looking paintings of jungle scenes are well known. Strangely enough, he never left France in his life and could not visit these destinations. In addition to his frequent trips to the Paris Botanical Garden, he found inspiration in the contrasting hues and scenes represented in children’s books, periodicals, postcards, and other media.
Henri continued to imagine jungles and exotic animals and infused them into his artwork. He lacked academic training and used unconventional artistic techniques. He was renowned for using layers, painting with one hue at a time, and always painting his.
