5 TIPS FOR KEEPING YOUR SKINCARE RADIANT POST-FLIGHT
Boarding a flight to somewhere near or far can be exciting, especially if your trip is for pleasure rather than business. But no matter the reason for your trip, nothing is worse than arriving with dry, damaged skin that makes you feel worse. And, unfortunately, you often must embark on your journey without all your favorite high-end skincare goat milk products, so you could spend most of your trip struggling to get your skin back to normal. Fortunately, Kate Somerville, a skin expert of 8 years, and Michelle Freese have shared with us some tips to keep skin radiant and beautiful, wherever you go!
Skin tips
The biggest challenge to maintaining radiant skin while flying is that the air tends to be much drier than your skin is used to. The recirculated air in an aircraft cabin typically contains around 10% humidity, whereas most of us experience around 30% humidity in our daily lives on the ground. With that in mind, Michelle said the key to radiant skin after the flight is to do whatever you can to minimize the effects of that dry air on your skin types, such as oily skin or sensitive skin.

Moisturize… then moisturize more
One of the best methods to fight dry is to give it as much moisture as possible, which you could do in two approaches. First, apply a thick moisturizer or even an overnight moisturizing mask while you are boarding. This will assist to lock in any remaining moisture while giving extra assistance for the harsh conditions your skin is about to survive. Second, and perhaps a little less obvious, is to drink LOTS of water. Keeping your entire body hydrated by drinking plenty of water helps keep your hydrated from the inside out.
-
Exfoliate while you’re at it
Dead skin, dirt, and debris can easily clog pores and cause a breakout, which is the last thing we want to experience when we land at our destination. To help keep your skin clear, use a gentle exfoliator or facial scrub before and after your flight. Removing any dry, dead will prevent it from lingering on your face and leave you with smooth, glowing skin.
-
Stock up on hyaluronic acid
Use a gel-based mask or serum containing hyaluronic acid as the main ingredient to help revitalize tired skin after the flight. As a skincare ingredient, hyaluronic acid improves the ability of your skin to retain moisture. The wrinkle warrior 2-in-1 Plumping Moisturizer + Serum is a great option designed to plump and hydrate the skin. For an even bigger effect, try applying your hyaluronic acid serum under your moisturizer to help lock in the product like goat milk soap.
-
Do not wear makeup
As tempting as it might be to wear makeup on your flight, try to prevent it when you could and wait to apply it when you come. Most makeup tends to dry out our skin even on the ground, so wearing it on a plane can amplify those effects. This is particularly valid for longer flights like international or cross-country routes.
-
Don’t forget your FPS
I hope you already wear sunscreen daily, but it’s important to remember to put it on even when you travel. It may seem like you don’t need it until you get to your destination, but you’ll be much closer to the sun’s harmful rays in the air than on the ground. You may be able to control your window shade, but you won’t be able to control someone else’s, so applying an SPF will help protect your from sun damage.
