Hollister M.D. and H. K. Gillespie B.A. discussed the effects of Delta 8 THC Syrup in humans.
CBDDY defines Delta 8 THC Syrup as follows:
“A delta-9-THC analog, a molecule with a similar structure but some notable differences.” While the two have many similarities, such as allegedly stimulating appetite, reducing nausea, and soothing pain, Delta 8 THC Lean has a lower psychotropic potency than delta-9-THC.”
So it appears that Delta 8 THC Syrup is legal THC, albeit with a less intoxicating effect than delta 9 THC, the main compound responsible for the “high.”
Delta 8 THC Syrup and the Legal Status of Hemp Under Federal Law
The DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) published a rule regarding the scheduling of hemp and marijuana in August 2020. Andrea Hope J. Steel, director of Coats | Rose’s Cannabis Business Law Group, and Lisa Pittman, co-chair of the Cannabis Business Law Practice, dissected the new rule because the cannabis community assumed Delta 8 THC Syrup was illegal.
According to Steel and Pittman:
“We investigated the Rule and other materials, and we disagree with the conclusion that it is now illegal.” Instead, we believe that as long as Delta-8 is derived from cannabis that meets the definition of hemp, it is not illegal under the federal CSA, and we do not believe the DEA Rule changes this.”
